Declaration of the Founding of the Committee "Freedom for Horst Mahler, Reinhold Oberlercher and Uwe Meenen!" and appeal

After the third day of the trial against Horst Mahler, Reinhold Oberlercher and Uwe Meenen of the Deutsches Kolleg ("Collegium Germanum", www.deutsches-kolleg.org) on February 18 2004, it becomes clear that the accused are in danger of being silenced not only long-term but also short-term. The freedom of the press is also in peril.

For the protection of the accused and to safeguard the freedom of information, there had to be a reaction against these liberticidal tendencies.

At the end of the proceedings, Bernhard Heldt of the Civic Association for a German National Assembly and Peter Töpfer (www.nationalanarchismus.org, Antideutsches Kolleg – www.antideutsch.de) decided to found the Committee "Freedom for Horst Mahler!"

Please sign the following appeal:

Appeal

We – regardless of origin, world view and if sympathizer or enemy – demand that Horst Mahler, Reinhold Oberlercher and Uwe Meenen be entitled to exercise their freedom of speech. Enough with the attempts of criminalizing free speech!

If Judge Faust and State Attorney Krüger want to learn about the views of Mahler, Oberlercher and Meenen – go ahead! But not by force in a court. If they want to do it in public – even better! But there are other places than a criminal court.

By signing the appeal of the Committe "Freedom for Horst Mahler!", we do not necessarily condone the political, philosophical or other views of Mahler, Oberlercher and Meenen. We care about freedom of speech and the possibility of an open and honest dialogue.

First signatories:
Bernhard Heldt
Peter Töpfer
